Windows STL thumbnails

Since I have started 3d printing, I have downloaded a lot of STL on my computer and sometimes it is difficult to find back the good one.

A nice feature to make it easier is to have a preview of the file directly on windows file browser.

This morning, I found Papa’s Best STL Thumbnails and it works really well. Right after installed it, I get a nice preview. Really cool and easy!

Rapsberry PI with Octoprint power supply

1) Components:

For my first DIY enclosure I used a big power supply similar to 3d printers power supply. For this project I decided to use an 12V 5A AC adapter from Amazon for 12$:

In order to plug the Raspberry, we need to supply 5V and I choose a JZK power module with USB plug:

2) Wiring:

With this components no soldering, no more cable, it is ready to plug !

Raspberry PI start perfectly without any plug or connection problem.

3) Light component:

I choose 5050 led strip pasted on cheap plastic profile.

3 sides of the enclosure will be lighted.
Total 84 x 5050 leds = 16.8 Watt = 1.4A (12V)
With this configuration I get approximately 1400 Lumens, That is good enough for lightening an enclosure.

On this configuration, led strip will be on top of the enclosure, on left, right and front side.

There is also led strip with higher density of led, therefor it is possible to add light only on 2 sides of the enclosure.

4) Light wiring:

I used the free 12V connector on JZK power bulk to connect the wire with a On/Off “Rocker Switch” from ebay.

For testing, I add a small mini DC voltmeter (from ebay also) to check USB voltage.

Soldering was easy to do on led strip.

It is also possible to use a relay board to control light with Octoprint. There is a nice plugin to do that : Enclosure plugin.

5) Testing lights:

I make a small video to show you led strip brightness.

You can see also that USB voltage stay stable when I switch on/off lights.

Next step?

I would like design a stand alone case for the JZK module. I would like also design led strip support in order to don’t need to buy plastic profile.

It was an easy and quick project to do a stable power supply for the Raspberry PI.

Adding lights cost was also very limited: below $5 !!!

Camera bracket

For adding the camera bracket we design an easy printed rail. This rail is mounted using the same screw as front hinge door.

For easy adjustement regarding require timelapse configuration, Camera can be install on the full height.

Rail can be used for adding other accessories as lights.

This design with PI cam enable elevation and tilt & pan orientation.

Part assembling for Logitech C920 and C270 will be available also.

MMU2S configuration for Prusa Box

Prusa Box MMU2S configuration will be available.

We are trying to get:

no modification on MMU2S unit
no modification on Prusa Box stainless steel part
as low as possible air leakage.

Our idea is to do a sliding flap linked to MMU selector.

We have to check:

Cable between MMU unit and Prusa motherboard is long enough
PTFE tube between MMU and extruder is long enough

Spool holder inside or outside

When we are designing an enclosure we think that spool can be inside or outside the enclosure.

Thanks to community feedback, we can see that both position has advantage :

Filament spool outside:

Outside in its own air sealed or anti humidity box
Easier spool change

Filament spool inside:

When the printer is in your living room, it can be nice to have nothing outside
Spool can be dry by enclosure temperature.

Thanks to your feedback, PrusaBox offers configuration for inside spool or outside spool.

Outside spool: every spool holder on the market can be used.

Air entry filter

As explained by 3d printing nerd in this video, it is very important to let some fresh entring in the enclosure.

Too much warmth is bad, let some heat out.
Electronic are delicate, you must protect them.
Power supplies and heat, two things to keep apart.
